Uganda was exciting and so was leaving Harare!  When we finally were allowed to board our plane, we didn’t know whether we would be landing in Nairobi, Kenya, and spending the night, or flying straight to Kampala, Uganda. Once in the air, we were told we would be allowed to land in Kampala and I was praising the Lord. I did not want to stay in Nairobi overnight! Even though we were more than 3 hours late (1:30 am), our hosts were there to greet us!  It always amazes me that no matter where I go, someone is waiting at the airport with a sign with my name on it.

It was a jam-packed week.  My Ugandan friend here in LA, Moses Male, arranged everything about my trip. Uganda straddles the equator and is therefore very lush. There are many fruit trees.

We spent a day with Dr. Sakaga, a dental surgeon trained in the US who is also a traditional healer. He has a school named PROMETHRA deep in the forest where traditional healers come together to learn from each other. There are few western doctors and he feels the traditional healers are best hope for the health of Ugandans.

We also visited with three Muslim traditional birth attendants located in small villages who work in their homes, with no electricity or other amenities.

Then we visited western trained Dr. Moses who has a small hospital with very few supplies for a very large area.          He supervises the traditional birth attendants and is desperately searching for a mid-wife to help him.

In the village of Musaka, we visited a woman whose husband had recently died from HIV/AIDS, leaving her with nine children. She has fruit trees, but her house was falling down and would not survive the coming rainy season.

   Next we visited a woman who is caretaker for her twelve grandchildren. Two of her sons and wives have died from HIV/AIDS leaving them orphans. She packages and sells small pouches of tobacco to get money for food.

We had scheduled our flight to leave before the elections to avoid any problems. The plane was coming from Dubai but it blew a tire on the runway. Since they could not find any of that size tire in Dubai, they had to send to SA for a replacement. Meanwhile, the Lord provided us a very nice stay in the same hotel where Presidents Bush and Clinton stayed. Our plane also didn’t come the next day, election day, but the day passed without incident other than the cell phones were taken off the air. The following day we flew Kenya Airways to Nairobi and then on to Harare.  Traveling in Africa is always an adventure!

Accomplishments

Because of your donations we have;

* Provided a new home for the Widow Mutumba and her children,  provided food, mattresses, blankets and school supplies for her and her children.

* When her youngest son, Godfrey, became ill with HIV/AIDS, malnutrition and Asthma, Jesca took care of everything. We paid for transportation to and from the hospital, took care of him, paid the hospital, doctor, and medicine bills, provided food so he could return home. We even provided a bed because of his asthma, so he doesn’t have to sleep on the floor. He and his whole family are now enrolled in the free HIV/AIDS program in Uganda providing medicine and treatment.

* Provided food, school supplies, soap, etc for the grandmother and her grandchildren.

* Paid school fees for both families children.

* Provided supplies for Dr. Beberi, and the three traditional birth attendants.

* We had the great opportunity to witness to the Goodness of God through people who believe in Jesus to the Muslims in these small villages. There were seven young women waiting for birth and one who had just delivered.  It would take too much space to describe the conditions!  We prayed at their request to Jesus for the safety of the women and their babies, and I prayed that they would grow up to love and serve Our Lord.  I thank and praise God for the many and wonderful opportunities he gave us to serve Him.

In conclusion,  we had a delightful time with Jesca. She showed us just a sampling of the many needs of her country. Here are some of her words: ”I really request you pray for our Kids especially those under 11 who are being kidnapped and slaughtered. It is horrible how Satan is using people to destroy us.”

“Dear Mum, We thank God for all of the Least of These efforts and struggles to unite people and bring hope to the hopeless. I really love Jesus because he never leaves us or forsakes us.”
